Introduction

This year, the Yale School of Music will examine the role of community engagement in the life of the professional musician. With two goals in mind – (1) to encourage School of Music students to explore the role of community engagement in their careers, and (2) to identify and promote good practices in this field – a series of Saturday Seminars will feature visiting lecturers.

Each session will begin with a 30-minute presentation by a visiting expert followed by a 90-minute discussion in which our students will address issues affecting the future of our field.

Those who participate in at least two seminars will be eligible to submit a proposal to receive grants of up to $1000 to present a project in community engagement.

Community Engagement Think Tank Seminars

Students will be able to explore issues like audience development, marketing, education programs, technology, and new ways to present concerts. These are important opportunities for our students to help create solutions to issues relevant to our work in the 21st century.

Each workshop will be limited to 25 YSM student participants. Others may observe the discussion online, or substitute for students on a space-available basis.

Online registration for each seminar will open three weeks before the scheduled date.
