Simon Carrington, conductor, is Director of the Yale Schola Cantorum and Professor of Choral Conducting at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the School of Music. He has also led the introduction of a new graduate voice track for singers wishing to specialize in Early Music, Song and Chamber Ensemble at Yale. Since 1994, Mr. Carrington has been instrumental in raising the level of choral and choral conducting programs, and has held positions at the University of Kansas and the New England Conservatory. Prior to coming to the United States, Mr. Carrington was a creative force and co-founder of the internationally acclaimed British vocal ensemble The King’s Singers. A 25-year veteran of the group, he gave 3,000 performances, made more than 70 recordings, and appeared on countless television and radio programs, including nine appearances with the late Johnny Carson. Mr. Carrington maintains an active schedule worldwide as a freelance conductor and choral clinician. Most recently he conducted Dvořák's Te Deum and Prokofiev's Alexander Nevski at the International Choir Festival in Szczecin, Poland; the Choir and Rebel Baroque Orchestra at Trinity Church Wall Street; and the Desert Chorale in Santa Fe. He also serves as president of the international jury at the choral festival in Leipzig, Germany.
