Lisa Moore, piano, has been described by the New York Times as "lustrous at the keyboard, and at once engaging and challenging" and the New Yorker magazine as "New York's queen of avant-garde piano." Originally from Australia, she has been based in New York City since 1985, performing and commissioning a wide range of music, including works for piano, voice, chamber ensembles, orchestras, experimental and theatre groups. From 1992-2008 she was the (founding) pianist for the electro-acoustic sextet The Bang on a Can All-Stars and winner of the 2005 Musical America "Ensemble of the Year" award. Moore was Artistic Curator of Australia's 2008 Canberra International Music Festival "Sounds Alive" series importing 35 global musicians to Australia for 10 days of concerts. Moore has performed throughout the world and premiered hundreds of new commissioned works for piano solo and ensemble. She has worked with composers ranging from Iannis Xenakis to Meredith Monk. Her festival appearances include BBC Proms, Israel, Warsaw, Istanbul, Oslo, Lisbon, Berlin, Moscow, Uzbekistan, Dublin, Southbank, Hong Kong, Milan, Rome, Venice Biennale, Budapest, Prague, Holland, Paris d'Automne, BAM's Next Wave, Barcelona, Lincoln Center, Norfolk, Massmoca, Tanglewood, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Mostly Mozart. Moore has performed with the New York City Ballet, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Steve Reich Ensemble, American Composers Orchestra, Albany Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony, Paul Dresher Ensemble, Bargemusic, Da Capo Chamber Players, Manhattan Brass, Mabou Mines, John Jasperse Dance and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Moore holds degrees from the University of Illinois, Eastman School of Music and SUNY Stony Brook. Her teachers include Gilbert Kalish and Yvonne Loriod. Moore teaches at Wesleyan University. Her four solo recordings are on Cantaloupe and Tall Poppies labels and her 30 chamber recordings are on Sony, Nonesuch, Cantaloupe, DG, CRI, BMG, Point, New World and New Albion.
